Eligibility and Classification

The Virtus Academy has built up an enormous expertise in the area of athlete eligibility and classification.

As a recognised member of the INAS-IPC Research Group formed around 2006, the groups mission was to develop an evidence-based classification system in the lead up to the re-inclusion of athletes with intellectual impairment in the 2012 Paralympics Games.

After successful inclusion, the Virtus became a partner in the Research & Development Centre for Classification of para-athletes with
intellectual impairment until its completion in 2020 at which point the Academy was launched.

The Virtus Academy is the premier institution working with International Federations of sport globally to develop or enhance science-based classification systems for athletes with an intellectual impaiurment.

We offer bespoke and tiered levels of support depending upon the needs of the sport.
